Although Farmington high school’s main school color is teal, many confuse this with green. This is rather inconvenient for most of the school year, but it can be used to your advantage on St. Patrick’s day. With this extraordinary holiday approaching, everyone has their own traditions that must be followed. Some of these traditions include wearing green, eating green food, and catching a leprechaun.

“I LOVE St. Patrick’s Day! I look forward to this holiday more than any other day of the year! I am so excited you’re even asking me about this and writing this article! Please do it justice,” an anonymous student said.

Some students may love this holiday, but others don’t. Traditions are what make holidays good. Traditions like if you don’t wear green you get pinched. Or eating green pancakes and drinking green milk. Some go on a hunt for the leprechaun, while others are unaware of the holiday. As students get older they find no interest in this holiday.

“I don’t really care for it… other than the candy,” sophomore, Easton Spilker, said.

In my experience, St. Patrick’s Day is a fun day that is filled with green, luck, and finding the “treasure”. This holiday originated in Ireland on March 17, 1631 to honor St. Patrick who was a Patron Saint of Ireland. It is believed that if you wear green, you are invisible to the leprechauns, so they won’t pinch you. Believing this has caused it to become a tradition in many homes on this holiday.

Overall, many people have different views on this holiday. The many traditions that originated in 1631 are still used today. It is up to you if you celebrate this holiday or not. It is a fun-filled day full of green, treasure, and food. Well, if you catch the leprechaun, the treasure could be endless, so keep an eye out.
