Students Must Use Their Time Wisely

School can be an extremely fun place to be. Yet, most of the time it can be very stressful. Having eight classes can be hard to balance with family, friends and even after school activities. It feels as if there is no time to get any homework for your eight classes done. Students here at Farmington High are lucky to have a Maps Class to help lessen that burden, but that’s only one hour. Studies show that an average high school student has up to three hours of homework a night. So even if you work all of Maps, you will still have about two hours of homework a night. There are some tips that are proven to help you manage your homework time. That way, you can also have time for other things in life.

The first step is to find a homework-friendly work space. This place should be quiet and convenient. There should be minimum items that my cause you to get distracted. Definitely no doing homework on your bed, because that is where your brain thinks it’s time for rest and you’ll end up falling asleep.

The next step is to schedule and regular time to do your homework. If you do some of your homework in Maps, then you should know what you have when you get home. Make a list of tasks you want to tackle. Use your smart goal knowledge for that. Then tackle your hardest assignment first. You should start with the hardest because that’s when your brain will have the most energy. Focus more of your energy on the harder things that you don’t understand than the easy things that may take you five minutes. Another tip is to take little breaks in between each assignment. Get a snack, tidy up your room, etc. This gives your brain time to get back some of the energy it’s losing.

Another step that is used throughout the whole homework process is to always keep your homework organized. When you have all your papers organized it’ll be easier to find. With Summit, most of your homework is on the computer. A way to keep those documents organized is to use your one drive on Office 365. Label and put in specific folders to help keep those organized to find them later.

Once your homework is done, put your homework back into your backpack. Because you need to turn it in or use it for class. Maybe you already have a system that helps you make the most of your homework time. If not, hopefully you’ll try these out and you’ll be a little less stressed about your homework load.
