The Story of Frankenstein Pt. 2
October 23, 2019
This week, we learn about the Monster’s side of the story. While Victor Frankenstein was sick and worrying about his family, the Monster was doing very different things. Now, the monster’s side of the story isn’t just him attacking people, but more about him learning.
When he was created, he was scared and disoriented. He didn’t know how to speak or understand speech. He takes one of Frankenstein’s coats and runs away. Even though he is run out of many towns, he doesn’t attack any of them. He finds an abandoned shed resting against a family’s home. In that shed, there is a hole that he watches the family. By watching them he learns to read and understand speech and talk. He reads the books in Frankenstein’s coat and learns how he was made and who Frankenstein is. The father of this family is blind. One day while the rest of the family goes out, the monster goes to the blind father and just talks. He wants to be a part of this family and wants to gain their trust. But the others come back and drive him out of their house. The monster decides to try again. But as he is going back, they see them selling the house and he never sees them again. He keeps traveling and finds a little boy, he tells the boy to show him around, but the boy is scared. The boy threatens to tell his father about the monster and tells the monster that his father is Frankenstein (Victor’s father). This enrages the monster and he kills the boy. Just out of spite the monster puts the locket that he finds on the boy in a maid’s pocket, so she will be found as the murderer.
The monster in Frankenstein isn’t as little minded as he seems in all the movies. He was able to learn every fast and is getting smarter. Sure, he’s done some bad things, but is he really evil? Or is he just lonely? Next week, for Halloween, we’ll find out what happens after the monster finishes his side of the story.
