Have you ever met someone and you’re trying to get to know them and they pull out the question ‘what’s your zodiac?’ and you just stare off into space because you simply don’t know? Do you believe in the myths of the Zodiac and that your sign influences who you are? The zodiac signs come from Greek astrology. It predicts a person’s personality, as in what makes you, you based on your birthday. It is the position of the planets, sun and moon. To give us our characteristics, both the positive and negative. The Zodiac is very similar in many different cultures. You will find similar things in Chinese astrology, Vedic astrology, and Myan astrology. 

As a year has 12 months, there are 12 signs. Aquarius; January 20th- February 18th are the Water-Bearer. Pisces; February 19th- March 20th are the two fishes. Aries; March 21st- April 19th is the  Ram. Taurus; April 20th- May 20th is the Bull. Gemini; May 21st- June 20th are the Twins. Cancer; June 21st- July 22nd, are the Crab. Leo; July 23rd- August 22nd are the Lion. Virgo; August 23rd- September 22nd, are the Maiden. Libra; September 23rd- October 22nd, are the Scales.  Scorpio; October 23rd- November 21, are the Scorpion. Sagittarius; November 22d- December 22nd, are the Archer. And lastly Capricorn; December 2nd- January 19th are the Sea-Goat.

With each sign there is an element, ruling house, season, planet, mode, and personality, strengths, and weakness. With the elements you have Fire: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius. The personality of those with a Fire element is usually passionate, dynamic, temperamental. They light quickly like a fire and are physically strong. Earth: Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn. The Earth elements are usually “Grounded” down to earth people. Realistic, practical, loyal, stable, and stick with people through the thick and thin. Air: Gemini, Libra, Aquarius. Those with the Air element are rational, social, love communication and relationships with others. They love philosophical discussion and giving advice.  And then with the elements you have seasons that are either late fall, fall, early fall, and the same with winter, spring, and summer, and then the solstice is in there also. The planet is what planet is ruled by the sign. As in, Gemini’s planet is Mercury.

It gets more complicated with the ruling house and mode. The House starts with one. House one is self. And then second is material values. Third is learning and communication, and so forth. The ruling house goes hand in hand with the planet of the sign and personality. The Mode is also another complicated subject to some. With the Mode or also known as Quadruplicities, you have: Cardinal, they are big picture thinkers, brainstorming, initiation but might not follow through. Then Mutable, they are adaptable, not as positive, they flip sides, wishy washy. Fixed they are really great at digging in their heels, and very stubborn. And each sign will fall under one of them.

Now that you know a little more about Zodiacs, sometimes people believe that you reflect your sign as in your personality and how you act. Others believe that it has nothing to do with who you are as a person or your personality. You may have looked at your sign and seen things that describe you and it might be accurate. But it might also not describe who you are. In the end you may not believe in all of this mythology or you might believe in all of it. Do you think that it’s who you are?
