Swing dance club is a very inclusive club that welcomes all members who want to dance! In order to join, all you have to do is show up to practice. It is held every Tuesday after school for a couple hours. Then you will get a permission slip and you are in!
They teach many different kinds of swing dance including the 1920s era, country styles and Lindy Hop Charleston. There are many important skills you learn while participating in the swing dance club.
“You learn to have quick reflexes to catch people if they fall. You learn about stability and being grounded, using your core and body to influence your style of dancing,” senior, Samuel Romero said.
Each year, the number of members in the swing dance club grows.
“It is different every week but we usually have about 12 to 20 members show up,” senior, Collette Lovell said.
Every year the swing dance club tries out for the school talent show.
“We have a group of people that try out and we choreograph our own dances for the show,” Romero said.
The swing dance performance is always a crowd favorite when it comes to the talent show.
After being in the club for his third year, Sam talks about what got him interested in swing.
“In 9th grade my brother was doing swing dance club and I was like, ‘that’s legit!’ Then my best friend joined so we danced together and it was so much fun.” senior, Sam Romero said.
The club is steadily increasing in popularity each year. If you are interested in swing dancing this is the perfect place for you! You can make new friends who have similar interests as you. You can also learn so many new skills and maybe even show off your skills at the school talent show!
