Now that 2021 is over, we tend to rethink our year. Was our year bad, or did we have the best year ever? Around this time we tend to compare many things. I decided to find what the worst movie of 2021 was.

“I didn’t like Eternals, because the movie underpowered the celestials, and the movie all-in-all didn’t make sense,” senior, Nick Varela, said.

Eternals was released on November 5, 2021. Eternals is about celestial beings who have superhuman powers, who have been looking over the Earth for thousands of years. Once Eternals hit the theaters it made a total of $300 million, and has a 47% rating on the Rotten Tomatoes site. Compared to other MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) movies, Eternals was a major flop. Eternals was ranked the lowest movie in the MCU.

“I didn’t like Free Guy because I feel like it was a complete copy of the Lego Movie, but they just made it a video game. The plot was really unoriginal, but it was a really funny movie,” junior, Taylor Miller, said.

Free Guy was released on August 13, 2021. The movie is about a bank teller, Guy, who discovers that he is a background character in a video game. With this knowledge, he decides to make himself a hero of his own game. While on his journey to save his game, he meets a coder, Molotov girl, and falls in love with her. Together, they save the game. Many aspects make this movie extremely similar to The Lego Movie. The plot is the most obvious one, where a normal guy suddenly has an epiphany and goes against the norms of society. They meet their partner who tries to save them, the main character and partner fall in love, and they save the day together. According to the box office, Free Guy made over $300 Million, and has an 80% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Thus making Free Guy a good movie, according to Rotten Tomatoes.

“Eternals was an off movie for Marvel’s superhero image. The movie didn’t fit in with the other Marvel movies made and, to be honest, it was just a weird movie,” senior, Scott Taylor, said.

According to the students’ responses, Eternals was a major flop and could be labeled the worst movie of 2021. Not only do our students say this, a majority of viewers of this movie also say

this. And students’ responses to Free Guy seemed a little bit hostile, but to other viewers, Free Guy wasn’t just a copy of the Lego Movie, it was something better.
