March Madness Sweet Sixteen

This year’s March Madness has been completely unpredictable and full of surprises. March Madness, or the NCAA tournament, has a perfect bracket challenge where you try to guess who will win or lose in the tournament all the way up until the final game where you even must put the score. No one has ever gotten a perfect bracket, so the NCAA has offered one billion dollars to a perfect bracket or one hundred thousand dollars to the top ten imperfect brackets which is why March Madness is so intense and exciting. This year, all the brackets have already been ruled out for the perfect bracket challenge. So just that fact alone should be enough to show how unpredictable it’s been so far.

“I put Gonzaga to win it all,” senior, Lizzy Thomas, said.

Arguably the most shocking upset so far has been the Saint Peter’s-Kentucky upset. Kentucky had an amazing season this year. It was certainly one of their better years and they rounded out their season receiving a two seed in the March Madness tournament. Saint Peter’s, on the other hand, did well this season, considering their team does not usually make the tournament, so they were lucky just to make it into the tournament as a fifteen seed. Going into this game, most NCAA fans were expecting Kentucky to move on, leaving Saint Peter’s in the dust with ease because two seeds rarely lose in the first round. However, it was much closer than anyone would have guessed. Late in the game, Saint Peter’s took advantage of the momentum they gained and finished off Kentucky 85-79, shocking NCAA fans everywhere and destroying bracket after bracket.

“My family has always been big Gonzaga fans so of course I put the Zag’s to win,” senior, Mercedes Whitey, said.

Alongside the Kentucky upset, there were a few other twelve vs five upsets, eleven vs six upsets, and seven vs ten upsets, but Kentucky’s was by far the most shocking. There have been a lot of other exciting games, many of which result in overtime and even a few double overtime, so you can bet your bottom dollar it’s ramping up to be an extremely exciting bunch of Sweet Sixteen matchups.
