Ka Khow! As we’ve sprung into spring with warm weather and sunny days, the race cars start coming out of garages and onto the track. The car community is roaring excited. Warm weather comes with a hot and ready engine to race. The Farmington community has lots of fun cars rolling through.

This last weekend, Legacy Events Center held a car competition in which each car/participant took a turn on the race track trying to get the shortest time of the day. The winner came in in under 45 seconds completing the course without knocking down any cones! Cars featured included a Nissan GT-R R35 as pictured, a Camero with a power source including nitrogen, Ford Focus ST as the track winner, several Corvette’s, Miata’s, BRZ’s, etc.

I interviewed three students here at Farmington High to dig deeper into our local car community.

Wyatt Henderson drives a mustang- 1964 1/2 (mustang got released early).

“My grandpa and I were looking for cars and found this nice 1964 1/2 Ford Mustang. We found it on KSL totally beat up and not running. My grandpa told me if I could get it started I could keep it. I changed the battery and it would start for five seconds. I rebuilt the engine giving it a 289 engine swap of 4.7 L. I painted blue, added new wheels/rims, redid the whole interior, so now it runs and looks clean,” senior, Wyatt Henderson, said.

Casey Stam is working on refurbishing a Chevrolet Chevelle 1969.

“It’s my dad’s car he got when he was 18. It sat for 25 years without being started. Starting this school year, I switched it from a 1973 Chevrolet Monte Carlo with a Chevy 350 engine. I rebuilt the carb, replaced the starter, rebuilt the drum brakes and replaced brake lines, and am currently rewiring,” senior, Casey Stam, said.

Mac Vance drives a 2012 Infiniti G25x.

“On my Infinity, I have O-Z Rally Racing wheels, with two cold air intakes, economy tune, and greddy catback exhaust,” senior, Mac Vance, said.

The car community is a safe and overall friendly community for car enthusiasts to share their passion and interest for cars. Our own school has members of the car community in it that work everyday to better their car and reach their goals. Everyone is welcome to check out all the cool car events in Farmington at the Legacy Event Center’s website and view all the cool cars just in the parking lot of Farmington High.
