The matrix resurrections does too much. I say this not because There’s too much going on on screen, Although there is, but I say this because, the film doesn’t even need to exist. The series before this movie was what I believe to be, a piece of art. A perfect reflection of a dystopian future where the choice between delusion and reality is seldom different. However this franchise has been recently soiled by the last installment, Matrix Resurrections. A terrible finish to an epic series.
The main reason I believe that this movie does too much is because, Like I said, it doesn’t need to exist. If the series ended with The third installment and Neos sacrificial death no one would have batted an eye. But instead of that perfect sweet and sour finish we got Resurrections. The movie tries to touch on ideas like second chances, love and also more philosophical ideas like the idea that peace is war, but they all flop on their face. Other things in this movie just straight up don’t make sense, like how Neo is resurrected as a code but the code is also half Mr Smith. Another problem I had with the movie is that the new characters were not introduced very well. It felt like we were pushed to like them without giving a reason. And a lot of the new characters are pretentious, copy and paste, run of the mill characters. What I will say about this movie is that for what it’s worth seeing a fourth installment while even just being a money grab was entertaining.
All in all, this movie has a lot of problems whether it be the plot being a scramble of ideas not fully thought through or the Main ideas lacking in value, this movie has a little to much fault to think about. I rate the Matrix Resurrections a D.
