Bojack Horseman is a show that can make you both laugh and cry. Using its bizarre atmosphere, characters, and funny situations to lighten up the struggles and darkness in Bojacks life.
Bojack Horseman premiered on August 22nd, 2014, and ran for six seasons. This show was written by Rapheal Bob-Raksberg and directed by Amy Winfrey. Bojack Horseman is an animated drama/comedy that follows the life of a former 90’s sitcom star, Bojack (Will Arnet), while he deals with his own personal struggles, like depression and addiction, while living in Hollywood.
The main cast of this show includes Will Arnet (Bojack), Aaron Paul (Todd), Alison Brie (Diane), and Amy Sedaris (Princess Carolyn). All these actors used their voice acting skills to make the audience laugh with their amazing comedic timing, while making the audience feel a great amount of sadness.
After I finished this show I was feeling a variety of different emotions. So many insane, devastating, and also heartfelt things happen in this show in the six seasons it aired. So much happened that I had to stop and take a break to process all of the different emotions I was feeling from this show
Will Arnet (Bojack) did an incredible job at voice acting Bojack. He was able to portray every emotion perfectly just using his voice. His comedic timing is perfect but at the same time he was able to make the audience feel so many deep emotions with his dialogue. One specific episode that proves this is “Free Churro” (Season 5 episode 6) where the entire episode is one 25-minute-long monologue given by Bojack at a funeral. When I heard there was an episode like that, I thought it was going to be extremely boring but after watching, I was amazed and feeling so many different things, that explains how Will Arnet performed this character.
The thing that separates this show from others is its amazing job at portraying complex characters with realistic issues, while adding light and comedy to the show by all the characters being random different animals. Every character is relatable in some way keeping the audience interested in every plot point. This show starts off like any adult animated comedy, then spirals into deep topics, like mental health, addiction, and grief.
This is definitely one of the most heart wrenching shows I have ever watched. I am giving this show a 9.5/10 on the Lilly scale.
