It is officially the Christmas season and there are so many things to look forward to! From the cookies and gingerbread to the snowmen and hot chocolate, many can agree that this is a wonderful time of year. One thing some cannot agree on in relation to this season though, is Hallmark Christmas Movies.
Hallmark Christmas movies first began in 1951, when they aired Amahl and the Night Visitors. The movie told the story of a young shepherd boy who was visited by the Wise Men on their way to find Christ. Overtime, Hallmark Christmas movies became less focused on religion, but many people still watch each holiday season. Though not all.
Some students really do not like the movies. They claim they’re too predictable, cheesy and the actors add no substance to the film.
Junior Edmondy Cooley says, “Hallmark movies are the absolute worst. The dialogue is so cringe, and the acting? Don’t even get me started. Wholeheartedly? They’re my villain origin story.”
Luke Mckean, a junior, feels the same way. He says, “I don’t really like Hallmark movies. I think that they are just the same plot over and over again which makes them boring to watch. I think it’s just the same thing over again but with different actors and the ones I have seen are a little cheesy.”
Other students disagree and feel as though they add to the aesthetic of the Holiday season and contribute humor and happiness.
“They always have a good ending that’s super happy. And it makes me happier for Christmas. Plus they’re hilarious.” Junior Molly Pendleton says.
In general, it seems as though more girls like watching Hallmark movies than boys.
Luke Mckean agrees. He says, “I really have not found a boy that enjoys these types of movies, but also I feel like girls like those types of movies more than boys.”
However you feel about Hallmark Christmas movies, we hope you have a wonderful Christmas season full of the things you love.
