“How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” is a children’s book written by the famed author, Doctor Seuss. The story was set in a town called Whoville where we were introduced to the Whos, inhabitants of Whoville who loved the Christmas season.
We were later introduced to the main character, the Grinch, a shaggy green guy, who hated Christmas and the Whos. He hated the Christmas season so much that he decided he wanted to steal the Whos’ Christmas, so he did. Many are familiar with the rest of the story, the Grinch steals Christmas, but eventually has a change of heart, and brings back Christmas, no longer alone.
With its heartwarming story and whimsical illustrations, it is no surprise that the story, written in 1957, soon reached the bestseller list and remains one of the most popular Christmas stories today.
“I think it’s a fun story that almost every kid has seen because It’s lowkey heartwarming!” Junior Kaily Stam said.
Though many students like the Grinch, some don’t appreciate the classic story.
“I’m actually scared of the Grinch and I hate it.” Senior Michal Pakula said.
The story was popular as a book and a television special was put out less than a year later, in 1966. In 2000, another movie was released, but a live-action, one featuring Jim Carrey as The Grinch. 18 years after the live-action, another movie, this time an animated feature, appeared on screens just in time for the holiday season.
Kaily Stam prefers the 1966 television special and says, “I think the Dr Seuss movie is the best because it’s so cute and he’s way nicer to the dog which is an absolute win.”
Other students prefer the live-action , and most recent animated version as they feel it is the most comedic.
“The live-action version is probably my favorite because the Grinch is the funniest in that one.” Junior Gabriella May said.
Whether you choose to watch this Christmas classic or take a different route, we wish you a happy holiday.
