The X-Men trilogy seems to have been a forgotten gem up until Deadpool and Wolverine came out. But with the release of the third Deadpool installment I had to rewatch the X-men trilogy. And I forgot how much I loved these films. They were the origin of superhero films and they paved the way for the DCU and the MCU, two of the most acclaimed trilogies in all of cinema.
My favorite movie from this franchise has to be X-Men Days of Future Past. This film has a great idea of what a Superhero movie should be. This movie takes the characters that we have loved and learned about from all of the prior movies and gives us an almost infinity war experience that Predates even the incredible hulk. Its epic song choice and ensemble paired with climactic cinematography makes for an exhilarating watch and I would highly recommend giving this one a view.
Even though I feel so highly about this franchise we cannot forget the blunders. X-Men First Class is a disaster-class of recycled ideas that have already seen the big screen. This film sees magneto as an antagonist for the fourth time in five movies and in general is below the standard for action and storytelling. Another blunder is X-Men Dark Phoenix. During my rewatch I didn’t even bother to watch this installment because I think it is redundant and doesn’t warrant a reason to be added to the franchise. It also should be added that this movie was released well into Marvels Infinity saga which was the talk of the town, so I find even less of a reason for this film
Besides the few missteps in the X-Men legacy I find the franchise to be a breath of fresh air from traditional modernized super hero movies and a rewatch is mandatory for me every 1-2 years. I highly recommend a watch and would rate the X-Men trilogy a B+
