Pink Floyd has always been one of my favorite bands. There precision and experimentation combined with there vocal ability is something few groups have ever been able to master the way Floyd did. Being such a big fan of there work I have listened to almost all there music. Having listened to all of there music I can safely say that dark side of the moon is one of my favorite albums ever made.
One of my favorite songs off of The album is definitely Time. I revisit this song every once and a while and every time I do I spend a week having it on repeat. The track is a perfect reflection of what Psychedelic rock should be. An ominous opening with subtle ambient noises followed suddenly by loud chimes and clocks. The track progresses into a loud yet smooth climactic guitar and drum clash. One of my favorite things about this track is for sure the vocals though. Delivered by David Gilmore the song sounds as if any given dad could sing it but at the same time is so technically sound. I marvel at the ability of this band and this album but most particularly this song.
One con of this song for me would have to be the latter half of the run time. Although the last three tracks of the project are very needed they all seem to drag the album on for me. I find That if I stop at Us and them I feel much better about my listening experience. Although some people may disagree I feel as though a version without these three songs might put this album higher on my all time list.
At the end of the day dark side of the moon is one of the greatest psychedelic rock records of our time. The cohesion of style and rhythm for the band climaxed on this album and we shouldn’t take it for granted. If you haven’t already I implore you to give it a listen. I rate Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd an A.
