Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins was released March 18, 2025. This is the fifth book of the Hunger Games series she has released. This book, however, is the second prequel she’s written that’s gone along with the original trilogy. This book in particular follows an important characters back story. Haymitch.

It goes through Haymitch’s reaping and the 50th hunger games which was a Quarter Quell. Meaning they did something special and had double the tributes from each district. As the story goes on, we see Haymitch’s time in the arena and the trauma that came with it.

As great as I thought the book was, I am excited to see how the movie adaptation will be, that’s set to be released November 2026. We have already heard quite a bit of news from it and some of it is very exciting.

What do we know about the movie so far? Well, recently they have announced the actors and actresses for the biggest roles. Including Joseph Zada as Haymitch. The main character and winner of the games. Mckenna Grace as Maysilee Donner, another tribute from district 12, who is an ally of Haymitch. And Whitney Peak as Lenore Dove, Haymitch’s girlfriend and a member of the Covey in district 12. All these actors have accepted their roles and are ready to begin filming soon for the movie.

I personally think that so far, all the actors match the characters they will be playing. I think a huge part of a movie is getting the correct actors and I’m intrigued to see how well they play their roles.

I am excited to see how well the adaptation of the movie goes, and excited to see who other actors are cast. Overall, I think this was a great story to the series, and will be a great movie adaptation for the story.
