The name change represents a big leap forward for the franchise. The team has been trying to establish a solid local identity and base of followers throughout Utah since relocating to Salt Lake City.
Community minded Ryan and Ashley Smith from Smith Entertainment Group led the rebranding campaign and incorporated extensive fan feedback resulting in the new name, “Utah Mammoth.”
The team was placed in Salt Lake City, Utah, the hub of a fast-growing sports market in the Mountain West. The team plays home games at the Delta Center, a familiar home also shared by the NBA’s Utah Jazz. Located in downtown Salt Lake City, the Delta Center provides an energetic and convenient location for fans throughout the region. With the arrival of an NHL team, the area is proving to be a vibrant sports hub for professional sports.
The name ,“Utah Mammoth”, was selected to honor Utah’s rich paleontological history, specifically the ancient mammoths that roamed the region over 10,000 years ago. The decision followed a stringent community-driven process where over 850,000 votes were collected in four rounds. The chosen logo consists of a mammoth with snow-capped peaks similar to those of the Wasatch Mountains, and a “U” shaped tusk. The name commemorates the prehistoric mammoths that once roamed Utah more than 10,000 years ago. The team’s branding continues its light blue, white, and black colors with a logo that features a design of a mountain, the state of Utah form, and a mammoth tusk forming a “U” shape.
