The end of year is here, and I am sure that most students here at FHS are ready for their fun plans for the summer. We may be excited for the last day of school, but all students must surpass the end of year barriers. These barriers are our tests, whether that is AP, CE, or an end of unit test in any extracurricular or core subjects. Sometimes it may not be tests but an end-of-term project we need to work on.
“I would probably say math, because I have a lot to do before the terms over” – sophomore Liberty Harris
This year at FHS our grades are “semesterized.” For those who don’t know, a semester is worth 2 terms. There are 4 terms in a school year, meaning we only have 2 semesters. Our grades being “semesterized” means that the grade we get in the 2nd or 4th term has a possibility to bump our grade up from the previous term. The great thing about this is that it’s almost like a second chance. This could turn the wrong way though because some teachers will carry over the past assignments into the next term, meaning you must make up all the work you missed the previous term while keeping up with the current term. The reason why it feels more stressful currently is that not only is it the 4th term, meaning we can’t make up anything after this, but it’s also the end of the year, meaning we have many tests that must be taken with little time to make up if given a low score.
“I have to retake 1 test in math and I’m taking a Chemistry final tomorrow and I’m doing a final project in medical forensics” -sophomore Liberty Harris
Everyone has different classes and the same goes for other students’ experiences. Even though it seems like the end of the world for some students, at the end of the day it’s just a test. Grades don’t define who you are and having a bad score doesn’t make you any less worthy of a person to respect.
