Almost everyone loves celebrating the holidays, but after Christmas passes, not many people celebrate the other holidays that come right after, at least from my perspective. The major holidays have already passed. Typically, when people say the word, “holiday,” Christmas, Halloween, Thanksgiving and sometimes even Easter are the first celebrations that come to mind, however, the holidays, St Patrick’s, Valentines, or sometimes July 4th, feel more significant when we are younger. In fact, many memories are more significant even with the more popular holidays because of a kids’ wonder. The idea of gifts, eggs, or scary stories can thrill children. Especially if you tell them a magical story with a mythical figure who gave them those presents, but you realize the truth behind these stories once you get older. Of course, we still celebrate these fun holidays, but is it as significant?
“I think they lose their sparkle a little bit,” sophomore Liberty Harris said.
The idea may sound ridiculous at first glance because holidays will always be celebrated, no matter how old you are. Even in a past article I asked the question, “Are you ever too old to trick-or-treat?” and some believe that trick-or-treating is for everyone, but the same can be true for the opposition. Some think that once you reach 20 or older, it could get weird that you’re trick-or-treating with kids. Adults often celebrate Halloween through other means, like haunted houses, but eventually it can get old or feel less fun.
“I’m gonna trick or treat till the day I die, Halloween is my favorite Holiday. I think I will always celebrate Christmas in some form,” sophomore Liberty Harris said.
Holidays are meant to be celebrated, no matter how old you are, but they can lose some of their significance, there’s no denying that. This doesn’t mean you should stop though, the continuation of holiday celebrations helps make the world feel a little more fun.
