It’s almost summer, and that means it’s almost time for another season of The Summer I Turned Pretty. So I thought this would be the perfect time to write a review of the first two seasons to prepare all of us for season 3. This show is based on the books by Jenny Han.
This show revolves around a young girl named Isabella (Lola Tung) but everyone calls her Belly. Every year she and her family spend the summer at her moms best friend’s beach house in a town called Cousins. Belly just so happened to have a huge crush on the oldest brother in her mom’s friend’s family Conrad (Christopher Briney) for as long as she can remember. But this time is different this time she is all grown up, so now she finds herself in a love triangle with Conrad and the other brother Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno). So, now Belly has to face the two of them while also dealing with her mom’s best friend Suzanna’s (Rachel Blanchard) cancer.
This was cast absolutely perfectly, all the actors do such a good job portraying the characters as they were written in the books. Lola Tung especially stands out to me, she resembles Belly’s character so much, and she puts so much emotion into this part. Conrad’s actor (Christopher Briney) also stood out to me. He did such a good job at portraying all of the complex emotions Conrad has to deal with.
Going into season 3 we are left with many questions. Like is Belly ever going to end up with Conrad (who is obviously the better choice). How is the death of Suzanna going to affect all of them in the long run? And many more.
Aside from many cringy moments, this show is an absolute must watch. The drama will leave you needing the next episode to come out.
