Most schools start as early as 7:00 and typically end around 2:00, just like how our school is scheduled. Because of this timing, sleep schedules could be fixed or further improved for students. It’s difficult to get back on schedule once your sleep cycle gets off, but school can help this situation. Summer is coming up and that means students will have much more time to spend on activities other than school. School is about eight hours long, which is quite a long amount of time to fill up. These eight hours, however, don’t account for timing of travel or waking up, meaning some people might have more time to spare than others.
“I plan on catching up with sleep. I also plan on taking some summer classes for History and English, so I don’t have to take them in the school year. I also plan on playing games,” sophomore Millie Kamerath said.
On top of classes, school offers multiple opportunities to explore different experiences. These include extracurricular activities from classes and clubs. Lots of fun classes, such as art classes, allow many students to enjoy separate activities whether they’re new or not. Trying out new classes takes up a lot of time because, instead of typical assessments, some are given a final project. Other activities, like clubs or sports, arguably take up the most time. This is because sport teams require lots of practice. Aside from practice games, real tournament games typically are held from early morning to noon to allow as much time for the players as possible. Not to mention, joint practices can take up even more time than practice rounds due to travel time and the collaboration of different schools.
“In French club it’s about an hour after school every few weeks,” sophomore Millie Kamerath said.
I’m certain that many students will plan on staying up late and sleeping in during the summer. Even though this takes up a decent amount of time, there’s still so much space to fill in between if you don’t work or plan on doing anything, meaning that there’s lots of time for students to enjoy their wonderful summer.
