This year’s college football playoffs were one of the most controversial playoffs since the introduction of the playoffs in 2014. This year was the final year of the 4-team playoff format with the Introduction of the 12-team playoff format starting next season. Alabama making it to the playoffs was the most controversial part of the whole season.
Florida State went undefeated this year and became the first undefeated Power 5 team not to make the playoffs. Which made college football fans across the country rage over committees’ decision to push in 2 teams with 1 loss Texas and Alabama. With Alabama winning the SEC championship against number one seed, back-to-back National champions Georgia. There is no question that they deserved a spot.
I talked to some Farmington high students about their opinions on this year’s college football playoffs. Senior Brinley Mattson says “The teams in the Playoff were disappointing. I was just hoping to see Florida State somewhere in the selection, but I guess they did get it right with Florida State getting blown out in their bowl game”
Number 6 Georgia blew out previously undefeated and 5th ranked Florida State 63-3 in the Capital One Orange Bowl Proving the Committees Decision was the right choice.
Senior Ashton Schulz told me why he thought the Committee’s Decision was right. “The decision was right because the playoff games seemed really well matched. Especially the rose bowl with Alabama and Michigan it was one of my Favorite games this year.
This year’s playoffs had some of the highest ratings in years so overall people enjoyed the game. It was a great year for the ending of the 4 team playoffs. It is going to be interesting to see how the 12-team playoffs will work.
