April 28, 2022
Music has such a big impact on the US and especially on teens. The awards for album of the year were just released and it’s time to talk about it. 2021 was a little bit of a strange year, but some of the most anticipated albums were released and some new artists made their names known through their releases. This year proved that, through the power of social media, you can promote to the max. Here are a few of the students’ thoughts on the best album releases of 2021.
“One of my favorite albums of 2021 was Doja Cat’s Planet Her. It has my favorite song ‘Kiss Me More’ on it,” junior, Bodie Williamson, said.
One of the most popular artists made her big rise in 2020 and 2021. Her music topped charts through the popularity of TikTok. She made her breakthrough on her breakthrough hit “Say So”.
She released her second and third album that is full of trending TikTok songs to this day. The first 2021 album was released in late March and the second was released in late June. If you want to listen to very trendy songs, these top albums are a must.
“My favorite album of 2021 was from Billie Eilish,” senior, Liv Wise, said.
Billie Eilish surprised everyone with an album release this year. She was able to blend vintage and contemporary touches to her music. She won back-to-back Grammys for her album and
became one of the biggest stars in the world.
“It is unanimous that Sour was the album of the year,” senior, Max Van Uitert, said.
The most known album this year was easily by Olivia Rodrigo. Just this month at the 2022 Grammy Awards, Olivia Rodrigo took home three Grammys on her first ever album, Sour. She won best pop vocal album and “Drivers License” won best pop solo performance.
One of the top albums of the year must be Tyler the Creator, Call me If You Get Lost. It was such a turning point in his music and transitioned his style into a classy type of vibe. He has a way of adding humor while staying professional and taking it seriously.
There are so many other great 2021 albums that everyone loved. Some include, Donda (Kanye West), CLB (Drake), 30 (Adele), Sling (Clairo), and An evening with Silk Sonic (Silk Sonic). 2021 was such a good music year and it’ll be interesting to see what 2022 has in store.
