The school year is almost over, and that means that everyone is rushing to get grades up and their ‘U’s made up. The deadline for ‘U’ makeup is Friday, May 7th. Luckily, there are many ways to make up ‘U’s like donating to the Wellness Center, cleaning, community service, or individual teacher assignments. Recently, a new option has been added to the list; a ‘U’ make up class.
The ‘U’ make up class is an hour and 30-minute class held in the library that allows students to make up two U’s. This class is a simple way for students to make up multiple ‘U’s at once.
“This class filled up so fast, and we still have so many seniors that have ‘U’s, so I’m thinking about making the class a senior only class,” said Administrative Assistant, Cheryl Satterthwaite.
After seniors receive their golden tickets, they are desperate to make up ‘U’s. Without making up their ‘U’s they can not graduate and walk at graduation.
“I got my citizenship signed off on my golden ticket, but then I started receiving emails that I had ‘U’s in some of my classes. I was super confused, so I asked my teachers and they said I had ‘U’s, so this week I’ve been on the ‘U’ makeup grind. I suggest to the seniors next year to check with your teachers earlier to see if you have ‘U’s to help reduce your stress in the last weeks of high school,” said senior, Calie Kilgore.
Some students think ‘U’s are unfair and pointless. They often do not care about receiving a ‘U’ because they would rather skip class, or don’t prioritize making it to class on time.
“I’m never to class on time, or just never go to class because I don’t really care and I have time to make up ‘U’s,” said sophomore, Gianni Tarabbia.
Ultimately, the majority of students have ‘U’s, so this time of year is stressful for so many reasons. Fortunately, easy ways to make up ‘U’s have been provided by the school.
