Everybody always tells you that your senior year flies by, but you never truly believe it until it is almost over. With less than 15 days left of school, students are reflecting on how the year shot by so fast.
For most students, senior year means easy classes with lots of home releases. They spend lots of time with their friends or at work rather than actually in school. This feels less like an everyday routine compared to other years of high school.
“I only have to show up every other day for two class periods,” said senior Max Linford.
Commonly called “senioritis”, students lose a lot of their motivation to show up to class, and they stop taking classes as seriously. Many students spend their senior year with their minds on what’s next, and not what’s in front of them. College, LDS Missions, or heading right into the workforce are all very common next steps for high school seniors. Pair that with events like last dances, graduation, and senior trips, and students are mentally checked out.
Most students are unaware of the time until they start hitting their “lasts” and then they really realize things are ending.
“I kinda forgot it was senior year until someone brought up the Cotillion,” said senior Daxton
Being oblivious to the time makes it seem as if it is flying by. Senior year of high school doesn’t actually go by faster, everything just matters more. It is the last year before students make big decisions on their own, and that makes every moment feel like it is slipping away, right in front of you.
