Every year in the middle of February, we all know what it is. You either dread it or it’s a day to celebrate with that special person in your life. Many people claim that Valentine’s Day should not be a national holiday, and that it is just another way for major businesses to make money off of consumers by selling cards, candy, stuffed animals, etc. And they argue that we shouldn’t have a special holiday just to celebrate your significant other, when you should be celebrating them every day of the year. On the other hand, many also argue that Valentine’s Day is a holiday and that they enjoy celebrating it. The people who usually claim this are people in relationships or kids in elementary school who still have fun with the holiday and don’t take it too seriously. Some people just use it as an excuse to celebrate, and have a party with all their single friends, and take a new spin off of valentines day.

“Yes, if Halloween is a holiday then Valentine’s Day is definitely a holiday too,” senior, Addison Crane, said.

“Yes because no matter if you are in love right now, you will be at some point in your life and it’s a fun way to celebrate,” senior, Jace Christenson, said.

“If Valentine’s Day didn’t exist the Cupid Shuffle wouldn’t be a thing, and that would be very disappointing,” senior, Alysa Whitney, said.

Whether you agree with Valentine’s Day or not, it is still a national holiday and you can’t change that. Personally, I think Valentine’s should be a holiday. Who doesn’t love another reason to celebrate. No matter if you decide to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year or not, I hope February 14th is a good day for you!
