Going into the 2022-23 NBA season the Sacramento Kings had very low expectations, with analysts predicting them to go 36-46 and finishing 10th in the Western Conference. This was supposed to be a kind of rebuilding year for the Kings where they would look to pick up solid players in free-agency for the future.

But the Kings team shocked everyone, finishing 46-36 as the 3rd seed in the Western Conference. After trading for All-Star Domantas Sabonis in the off season the Kings were really able to change the way they played the game. Led by coach Mike Brown Sacramento was back in the playoffs for the first time since 2006.

One highlight of the Kings season was point-guard De’Aaron Fox who put up 25 and 6 on better than 50% shooting from the field. Fox was given the NBA’s Clutch Player of the Year Award after hitting multiple buzzer beaters this season. Fox was also picked for his first All-Star game this year after Stephen Curry could not play because of injury.

“What they have been able to do this season is really impressive. They beat everyone’s expectations and have a chance to make history this season.” FHS Senior Adam Stucki said this about the Kings season,

In the first round of this year’s playoffs the Kings are facing the defending champions the Golden State Warriors. This will be a large challenge for them considering the lack of playoff experience from Sacramento.

They are currently down 3-2 in the series headed into an away game. The Kings have to win back to back games to move on the the Western Conference Semifinals. FHS Senior Ethan  “I don’t think the Kings can beat the Warriors at home, they are too experienced to lose that big of a game.”  FHS Senior Ethan Rivera said

We will see what happens next in this series and if the Kings can pull off this monumental upset.
