The Oklahoma City Thunder just had won the championship last season, clinched the western conference 1 seed the season before, and are off to an extremely hot start to the 2025 – 2026 season with a record of 21 wins and only 1 loss, which was only by 3 points. With stats and a story like that you would be a fool to not acknowledge that the Okc Thunder is a great team and have a major chance at being two time champs.
But the Okc Thunder were not always the team to beat. Just one year before they were the number one seed in the western conference they had a losing record of 40 – 42 and did not even make the playoffs. And the year before that they had another losing record of 24 – 58.
Despite the Okc Thunder not having a long record of being a successful team, many fans think that they are going to be the team to beat for a while.
Senior, Noah Defay, says “The Okc Thunder are for sure going to be good for a long time. They’re just too good and too young”.
The oldest starters on the Okc are Shai Gigleous-Alexander and Isaiah Hartenstein at 27 years old. And the average age of the starters is only 25 and most star NBA players usually play until their mid 30’s.
Senior, Britton Pearce, says, “Oklahoma just has way too many first round picks and too much talent for them not to become a dynasty team”.
The Thunder is one of the teams with the most first round picks over the next five years. They also have lots of apron space, which allows them to make moves to get other players to join the team or to draft star players. And not only that but Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams, and Chet Holmgren three out of the five starters for the Thunder are going to be on the team until at least 2023.
