With the rise of AI comes the rise of AI-generated art, sparking a debate of what is considered real art, and if AI should become the newest art form.
Because of AI, with the click of a button, you can create amazingly detailed images that look like a professional artist made them. This makes people wonder if it should be considered real art or if it’s just looking up an image.
“It’s not an actual person making it, just a program,” sophomore Makenna Collard, said.
Makenna has a great point because no human is making the art, but some people say the person made the prompt.
“You can commission a painting, but you are not the one who made it,” senior Ava Walton said.
Ava Brings a great point because, when you commission a painting, you aren’t the artist. This is similar to giving AI a prompt. You don’t make the art, you just tell AI what to do.
Another problem with AI art is how artists are losing money due to AI being so much cheaper, and faster. This is a problem because it is taking money away from people who need it, and making people wonder if AI art should be considered real art.
AI art is not real art because art must have meaning. AI art doesn’t, instead, it automates and alienates the process of creation.
