April 30th was a morning like any other. Students congregated in the halls chatting away until the bell rang. It was after this we all began to realize that no students were permitted upstairs. Teachers stood in the way of access to the second floor because of a “gas leak”. While we all wandered confused on where to go the fire alarm sounded and the building was evacuated. Students were instructed to stand outside and wait for further instruction.
So, what really happened? “I pulled up in the parking lot and people were everywhere. I asked my friends what was going on and they said there was a gas leak, and no one could go inside.” Senior, Aaron Hogan, said.
Once the fire department arrived everyone thought that the school might reopen shortly, but unfortunately that was not the case. Not to mention the potent smell still lingering in everyone’s noses from said gas.
While students waited many of them made the wise decision to just leave When Conner Brown was asked what he did with this newfound freedom he stated, “Me and the homies headed up to Fire Brig to go wheel for a little bit before they let us back in. We were a little late for next class, but we were chilling.”
The exact cause of the leak has not been revealed or confirmed. There are speculations involving students accidentally leaving the gas on in the biology room or a malfunction in the system itself, but we may not know until the administration releases a statement.
Students were let back into the school after a while and classes resumed. We don’t know exactly what happened but the strong smell of gas we won’t soon forget.
