For those of you who don’t know, the world-famous museum in France, the Louvre, has been robbed. It was robbed on October 19th, 2025, at 9:30 am. The thieves stole eight pieces of French crown jewels from the Apollo Gallery, including diamond and sapphire tiaras, necklaces, and earrings, together valued at $102 million. The stolen items are from 19th-century queens and empresses like Marie-Amélie, Hortense, and Eugénie.
Students have different ideas surrounding the robbery and what the thieves might be doing with the jewels.
“[I think they are] selling them on the black market or they already have someone contracted to take them” senior, Kody Yancey says.
“They probably melted them down and are trying to sell the jewels separately,” junior Jack Larsen says.
More students have similar answers, considering whether the thieves are selling the whole pieces or melting them down to sell easier. As time goes on, the hope of finding the jewels gets smaller, but there is still hope for justice as the French police have caught two of the suspects.
Although the length of prison sentences perpetrators will get is not quite known yet, teacher and students have thoughts of their own.
“I saw a movie about something like this which makes me think it’s ten years” senior, Bridger Curtis says.
“They will go to prison for the rest of their lives,” said teacher, Celia Larson.
It’s yet to be known what kind of sentencing they will get, but we will likely know by the end of the year. This concludes what we know from the Louvre heist.
