What is it to be a sports fan? Why are there fans for sports? Is it to cheer on your team, to have a roaring crowd? Why do you want to watch a football game? There is so much going on. There is your quarterback who throws the ball, the defensive line pressing for the quarterback, the wide receiver going for that touchdown pass. Their team is cheering them on from the field and the hundreds of fans for high school games and thousands for college and the pros. Why does Utah State have the loudest stadium for basketball? It can’t just be the bench cheering. It’s the fans who want to see more from the players. Why do we all chant for our team and make noise when the opposing team has possession. Why are there the hecklers?

“I come for the hype moments in the student section,” senior, Ethan Roylance, said.

“I’m a sports fan because I  really just like watching millionaires try and hit baseballs going a hundred miles an hour. The atmosphere is also really fun, everyone sitting there waiting for the perfect hit is awesome,” senior, Caroline Torman, said.

We are there to cheer our guts out and lose our voices cheering for the home team. We yell the chants, the anthems; we scream when we win and cry when we lose. We come for the jaw-dropping moments, the nail biting pass, the last ditch effort for the win. We cheer for our favorite players and our friends. We boo the opposite side when they score. We come for the moments that make or break the season. We come for the home team. We come for the PHOENIX!
