Farmington High School’s tennis team is undefeated on the season and just won their region. They have been working hard to get to this point for the last few months. A lot of them have also been working to win the region for the last few years.

“I think as a team we’ll do pretty well. I think we have a pretty deep team. We have a lot of young kids on the team that will be their first time in region and state. But I think we’ll do pretty well. We should finish top three and hopefully win state,” tennis athlete, Josh Jones, said.

Jones has been playing in the number one spot on the tennis team since he was a freshman. He is leading this team with his athletic ability and leadership. He looks to take his team through state and hopefully to the championship matches.

This tennis team supports each other and cheers each other on to win their matches. They are amazing teammates to each other.

“We have some really solid double teams and everyone seems to be really cheering for each other and rooting for each other to win their matches and pull through. Our mental capacity is also a lot better this year as well. Players tend to keep their heads and perform better under intensity,” tennis coach, Coach Conolly, said.

All Farmington athletics have moved up a division in state starting in fall of 2021. For most sports, this has been a struggle because teams have been tougher. However, the boys tennis team is in an easier region. Connolly explains how this is nice because it has helped them win region, but doesn’t prepare them as much for state.

The tennis season is coming to an end, and for athletes like Josh, we hope they can finish in one of the top spots.
