A new semester brings new classes, different schedules and a whole lot of stress. It tends to feel like you’re starting school all over again which can be hard to deal with. Especially coming back from a long winter break and learning to restart. Here are some tips and ideas to help you take on the new term without feeling overwhelmed or stressed.

When going into a new semester, try going into it with a positive mindset. This will help you make an easy adjustment to your new classes, it will train your brain to look at the changes in a positive way. With that, make sure to plan ahead. Double checking classes, where they’re located and what the workload for that class will be like. This will help keep things organized and allow yourself to feel more prepared.

Students at Farmington High School have shared what helps them when they start to feel stressed when the new semester starts.

“By staying on top of all my work, my biggest problem is procrastination. So if I avoid that and get it done when it is assigned, I won’t be stressed with a ton of work at the end of the year.”  senior, Kate Hansen, said.

Being aware of what you struggle with and your weaknesses can really help you know what you need to focus on.

Another great way to help with stress in a new semester is to let yourself relax. Doing your favorite things or distracting yourself from the things that stress you out can be very beneficial.

“When school starts to stress me out I like to watch Rick and Morty. It’s my favorite tv show and makes me feel better because I don’t need to focus on schooling.” Senior, Will Dotson, said.

Whether it’s school and starting a new semester or something else creating stress or worries in life, these tips and ideas can improve mental health. Allowing those feelings to stay steady and making everything a little bit better for you.
