Imagine coming home from school after three O’clock. All your friends are going to the football game, but your mom says you can’t go because you have homework. Have you found yourself in this kind of pickle?
Having homework causes stress, bad mental health, confusion of the subject, and poor time management.
Sophomore, Hendrix Stagge said, “Having homework stresses me out to get it done correctly and done in time.” Being stressed over homework makes it harder to do your work correctly and turn it in on time.
Having homework makes it so students can’t have an after-school life. Students are stressed to get it done, and don’t have time for extracurricular activities. It’s either homework and good grades or after school activities.
Sophomore Jake Kajma said, “I have missed multiple golf lessons because I needed to catch up on homework.”
Other people argue that homework helps with family-connection and students self-reflect on their growth. They believe that when you need help, you can get help from your family members. You can also see your progress in the curriculum you are learning by enhancing problem solving skills.
Although some people believe that homework helps with family-connections and self-growth, the negative side effects outweigh the good when it comes to homework. It would be more beneficial if you could get help from a teacher in class.
A solution to the homework problem could be more time in class to do it with a teacher. This would improve mental health, decrease the amount of stress, and improve your learning with a deeper understanding of the curriculum.
This solution would make it possible for students to participate in extracurricular activities. You can make your commitments on time and have free time to do what you want.
