Every year, the minute Halloween ends, Mariah Carey, hot chocolate, and all our favorite Christmas traditions have an immediate breakthrough. But when is it too early to celebrate our most favorite time of the year?
Right when the clock strikes 12 a.m. On Nov. 1, people are already watching ‘The Grinch’ and snacking on all the Christmas candies.
We’ve all heard it before, “It’s the best time of the year.” Why not make it last longer and start celebrating early? Christmas is full of friends, family, traditions, and excitement. If dancing in the kitchen singing to ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’, in early November, brings you joy, why should we stop this excitement for the holidays?
Others debate that this is way too early. They want to soak in every final bit of fall, from the pumpkin patches to the Thanksgiving food, and of course, enjoying pumpkin-flavored everything. It seems wrong to suddenly skip right to Christmas without giving attention to Thanksgiving.
Sophomore, Jessica Bybee said, “I usually start celebrating at the end of November.”
She has a point though, starting too early can make it hard to stay festive throughout the season.
For some people it’s fun to wait and to keep the anticipation high. It’s always fun to start countdowns, watch the first snowfall, and decorate sugar cookies. This slow buildup to Christmas is what makes this season so wonderful. If we start too early our Holiday Cheer will start to fade.
Maybe there isn’t specifically a “wrong” time to start celebrating. If you’re ready for Christmas on Nov. 1, go for it, nothing is wrong about being passionate about what brings you joy.
And for others, nothing is wrong about waiting longer to make the holiday seem more meaningful.
It is never too early to start celebrating Christmas. It depends on what you want to do and how you celebrate it. After all, Christmas is the season that brings us together.
