Farmington High School offers a wide range of classes: Digital Marketing, Marine Biology, Composites, Pottery, and many more, including Automotive.
The average American spends roughly 60 minutes driving every single day, that’s about 4.9 years over a lifetime. High schoolers drive every day, to and from school, and during lunch. Cars are a huge convenience of our lives, we need them.
Like all things, though, cars need maintenance, they must be cared for. Today it is very common for people not to take care of their automobiles. When things are neglected, you end up breaking unnecessary parts and spending extra money, and in worse cases, you can get stranded or need a new car.
Farmington High School’s Automotive instructor, Matthew Ringler, said, “We jump over pennies to spend dollars.”
Some maintenance can be hundreds of dollars just in parts, but if skipped, will quickly turn into thousands.
Taking your car to a professional mechanic is great, if you can afford it. Shop rates aren’t cheap though. Most shops charge a rate of around $150 an hour. You usually end up paying more than double what you would have if you did the work yourself.
Learning to do basic maintenance for your car can take you further than most would imagine, and you can do so by taking Farmington High’s Intro to Automotive course.
Senior, Max Linford, said, “I would definitely recommend anyone to take Auto if they want to learn lifelong skills and save a good bit of money.”
Any high school student who wants to learn lifelong skills, save time and money, and learn a little more about what really goes on when you start your car every morning, should take Automotive.
