Mental health is a big task that not only high schools students struggle with, but everyone in general. Mental health issues in teens, such as high school students, lead to a ton of other problems, leading to larger learning issues that affect school and education.
Mental health is super important, and by having good mental health, students show better concentration during class, memory and just in general educational accomplishments. Lets here from some Farmington High students about what changes our school could do to spread more awareness and why mental health in schools are important.
“It affects how people learn and how you focus during classes, because if you have a bad mental health, you won’t focus as much,” Sophomore Londyn Arnold says.
Mental health has many side effects and doesn’t just affect your learning, but also social relationships. Such as with teachers, friends and other students. By having a good mental health, it will help people have less conflict and go through less arguments.
“The school should put effort into doing more one-on-one meetings within students that suffer from mental health issues, like the counselors could pull in people more” Sophomore, Scarlet Peery said.
Addressing mental health more in schools, help students to create more helpful coping mechanisms for stress, anxiety or other things people struggling with mental health go through. By giving early identification to students, it prevents mental health issues from escalating and giving more positive outcomes in school. It’s a great way to prioritize mental health in schools, by doing one-on-one meetings with either a teacher or counselor you feel safe with, to have a good well-being and great success in jobs, careers or colleges.
It’s important to help people who suffer from mental health issues, especially when it comes to school. By making it more known in schools, it makes a big difference in attendance, attitude and behavior.
