Whether you want to or not, Farmington High students have to navigate, what some might say treacherous parking lot. Burnouts, bumpers and bad parking are all an alleged norm for this melting pot of new drivers.
Senior, Grady John said, “I feel decently safe in the parking lot, sometimes the sophomores be whipping corners pretty fast.”
Senior, Brigham Burns said, “There’s this one Mazda that just drives so crazy in the parking lot and it’s so unsafe.”
Sounds like our sophomores being bad drivers isn’t just a stereotype. It also sounds like it can be scary driving around the sharp, blind corners of our parking lot.
“One day I was pulling out and waiting in line to get out of the parking lot, and I saw three crashes in a row. I hadn’t even gotten out of the parking lot yet.” Senior, Grady John said.
Do more serious actions need to be taken? Law enforcement? School employees? What could help the safety of our students in the parking lot?
Senior, Everest Squires said, “I get cut off like daily, normal stuff; I guess. I think new drivers can be a problem, but the biggest problem is overconfident drivers.”
To Everest Squires, Overconfident drivers are mostly the problem. Maybe they think they are just too good at driving and they “Will never get in a crash”. Students at Farmington High School become distracted after school with friends in their cars.
Senior, Cardon Hadley added, “Sometimes I feel like people are out to get me in the parking lot, it’s scary. They are always locking eyes with me and cutting me off. I have a little car which is an advantage.”
Having a little car can help with getting out of tight or sticky situations. Especially if students are illegally parked.
