There is an ongoing debate about when it is considered the right time to decorate for Christmas. Many people think that Christmas decorations should be put up in late November, however, some people argue that they should be put up much sooner. Some people put up decorations as soon as the day after Halloween! This is because Christmas is one of the most liked and celebrated holidays, therefore people tend to get a jump-start on the festivities.
Senior Elyse Richards says, “I think it’s okay to decorate for Christmas the day after Halloween.”
To many people, the day after Halloween seems too early to be putting up Christmas or winter decorations. It is seen as the general rule of thumb to wait at least a few weeks after Halloween, or even after Thanksgiving to start putting away the Fall decorations. However, some families just can’t wait for Thanksgiving and start taking down fall and celebrating winter midway through November.
Senior Halie Anderson says, “Throughout the week after Halloween,” when asked about when her family takes down Fall decorations.
Another big factor in the ongoing Christmas decoration debate is the Christmas tree. Although some people start decorating for Winter right after Halloween, many families wait a few weeks before they start working on putting up the actual Christmas tree. This is done more commonly by families that value Thanksgiving, and don’t want to take away from its festivities.
Senior Sicily Matsen says, “we put the Christmas tree up usually a week after Thanksgiving.”
To conclude, there is a general consensus that each family has their own preference when it comes to holiday decorations. However, it is typical for people to start putting up winter decorations a week or so after Halloween, and to wait until after or around Thanksgiving to put up the Christmas tree.
