Have you ever wondered why you or others procrastinate even though we know it’s not helping us? This is a problem that almost everyone deals with and it is one of the hardest habits to break. Sometimes you are just not in the mood to do something and decide it’s easier to just avoid it and do something that you would rather do.
“I think people procrastinate because we are always trying to make things as easy as possible for ourselves and we prioritize the quick, easy fix rather than what will benefit us in the long run. Even if we know full well that it will be harder later, it still seems worth it because that’s the future not the present.” Junior Suzy Hancock said.
People usually procrastinate because they like to choose the easier, more comfortable path, avoiding things they don’t want to do. For some people it might feel easier to do something later instead of focusing on the hard right away leading to bigger problems later.
“Procrastinating is hard not to do when you have so many things you feel need to get done. This creates a problem for the current generation because as we’re swamped with work, wasting time trying to make our lives feel like our own, we fall behind and forget to keep up with the world around us.” Junior Hailey Leeman said.
Other people procrastinate because they get overwhelmed with all they have to do and they can’t find where to start. Once people start procrastinating and all these responsibilities start piling up it can make even the simplest tasks feel impossible, making people stop all together and leave it for later.
There are so many different reasons people procrastinate and it is such a hard problem to fix. So, maybe the real question isn’t why people procrastinate, but it’s what we can do to make those hard tasks feel like they can get done right away.
