Music is a prominent thing in students’ everyday life. Every year, people anticipate their music being wrapped, seeing how their music taste has changed throughout the year.
I think I speak for most people when I say sharing the love of music brings people closer together. Music is such a great conversation starter and can help people make friendships. Whenever music wraps come out for the year, people are always showing their minutes and top artists, songs, and albums.
The day wraps are released, you can hop on various social media pages and find people have posted about their wrap.
“I listened to 35,467 minutes this year, and my top genre was country,” says junior Brandt Baugh.
“My top artist was Radiohead, but if I were to recommend anyone, it would be The Strokes,” says senior Charlie Brunotte.
An interesting discovery of this year’s wraps was that many students had Frank Ocean as one of their top five artists.
“Frank Ocean was my second most listened to, which was confusing because I swear I didn’t listen to him that much,” says senior Ayden Hale.
Most students had a similar response to Ayden’s. Many people had Frank Ocean and agreed that he shouldn’t have been that high on the list.
Whether or not Frank Ocean was on your top artist list, we can all agree it’s interesting to see your friends’ top music and bond over similar music tastes, or even put your friends or classmates on new artists.
Music is fundamental in everyday life. Studies show how much it truly affects the brain. Music has been proven to activate multiple parts of the brain and do things including releasing dopamine, improving memory, reducing stress, and enhancing cognitive skills like language and focus.
Not only can you make connections with people, but you can also make connections in your brain that positively boost your mood.
