At the end of December, every year, students are given a two week break that includes Christmas and New Years. The break usually starts a week before Christmas and ends just a few days after New Years.
Christmas Break starts right as the second term ends, so students don’t have any homework. Taking advantage of this, they have lots of options.
Local ski resorts are mostly open at this time. Skiing and snowboarding are popular sports at Farmington High and many spend their days up at Brighton, Snowbasin, Snowbird, Deer Valley, or any of the big resorts around the Wasatch front.
“I plan to spend my entire break at Snowbasin this year,” says senior Daxton Quist.
“I want to be up snowboarding for about 90% of my break this year,” says senior Max Linford.
Christmas is a highly celebrated holiday at Farmington High School. Many students participate in popular traditions around the 25th. Parties, Friendsmas, and Secret Santa are very popular things leading to the break.
Christmas is considered a global holiday, celebrated on the 25th of December for the birth of Jesus Christ. It is common to see frequent nativity scenes around this time. Gift giving is a popular tradition as well, but mostly it’s about spending time with the people you love.
December 31st will mark the end of 2025, and a new year will begin. It is popular for people to hold New Year’s parties. Many will set goals for the upcoming year.
“I’m going to the ball drop party on new years,” says senior Daxton Quist. Some people also will stay home with their family, playing games, eating food, and staying up until midnight to celebrate the new year.
