People are very skeptical about listening to music in school, sometimes to the point it’s been banned in schools and classrooms. Many question whether it helps or harms students’ ability to pay attention and get work done.
Students and teachers have their own opinions on whether music makes them productive at school.
“I think that soft music should be allowed and, depending on what class, you could listen to different things,” says sophomore Cambria Soto.
“I think music could help students, but not every student likes to listen to music, and it could hurt the productivity of the students,” says, retired teacher, Mrs. Kade.
Mrs. Kade notes that, though she now mostly listens to music on the radio, she loved listening to Nirvana when she was younger. She thinks students should be given the choice to listen to music or not.
“I listen to calm music like Mazzy star, Dean Blunt, and kid Cudi. Listening to music helps me just sit still in class. I think that music should be allowed in classes. It would make me more productive in class if I was able to listen to music,” says sophomore Paige Gilbert.
Overall, the opinion is that the students should be able to pick if they listen to music or not. Music in class should only be listened to in AirPods though, so those who do not want to listen to music do not get annoyed or distracted by it being played out loud.
