The term “moshing” means a high energy wild style of dances, usually at a punk rock, EDM or metal show where they purposely run and slam into each other. Now moshing first started to show itself in the late 1990s where rock was widely welcomed in the high school community.
We will be asking students at Farmington High their thoughts on the safety of the Mosh and if they know the unspoken rules of the mosh.
“The mosh is really crazy, I probably only mosh a few times a year because it’s so intense and literally chaos. Unspoken rules? I know that when people start to fall or trip that everyone needs to stop and help pick them up. People can get really hurt if they don’t mosh right.” Sophomore Ellie Wright said.
It sounds like the mosh Pit can be intimidating because people fall over and ultimately become a human domino train. However it is very good to hear that people have the common sense to stop the Mosh and pick up people who have fallen.
“I absolutely love the mosh, I actually am in the middle of it most of the time and I lead it. Yeah people get hurt but that’s just when they aren’t jumping in sync with everyone else. When the best part of the song ends, we in the middle will meet up and run backwards with our arms out. This effectively makes a circle pit where kids can proceed to show off their moves like backflips, the worm or anything they wanna do with a friend.” Junior Rowan Henry said.
This is a very interesting account on Moshing, being in the middle of the mosh can make it more enjoyable because you feel more in control and feel more attention.
“I do not condone moshing whatsoever, however it is very very difficult to prevent it from happening. Students at Farmington High get hurt in almost every dance. These injuries can build up and cause it so there are no songs played where you can mosh to. The main song that causes this to happen is ‘Fein by Travis Scott’.” Principal Justin Whittaker said.
In the end it seems like the mosh is how you make it. If you go into it carelessly you could get hurt. There are students that are injured because they aren’t in sync with the jumping. Nonetheless, be safe when moshing and help others in need.
