Farmington High School has so many great educational clubs to offer. If you’re interested in going into business, or if you just want to meet new people and challenge your intellect, DECA is the club for you.
DECA is a Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) business club that focuses on marketing, finance, hospitality, and management. DECA is dedicated to preparing emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for the real world. Members compete against other school around the state. At competitions, you have the opportunity to network, meet new people, and make new friends. These competitions teach you how to solve real-world problems under a time constraint and use your creativity.
“DECA is really important because it helps you learn leadership skills; it helps you learn more about business and gives you real-life experience with people your age. You learn to communicate with and like other future leaders. It’s just a great way to strengthen your business skills and have fun, senior Ashley Brisko said.
Additionally, there are many scholarship opportunities offered specifically for members. The DECA program provides over $200,000 in scholarships to high school DECA members. There are also local state-held scholarships for CTSO clubs.
“I joined DECA to explore my entrepreneurial capabilities and meet new people. I also really enjoy furthering my business vocabulary and understanding through competitions,” senior Noah Defay said.
The state competition is taking place on February 19th and 20th at the Davis Conference Center in Layton. There is a meeting on February 2nd at 2:30 in the 26200 suite. State-written projects are due to Mrs. Howe on February 3rd by 9:00 PM. For more information, talk to Mrs. Hale or Mrs. Howe in suite 2600 or in corresponding offices, and don’t forget to follow phoenixdeca on Instagram!
