The NFL season has only been over for less than a month, but teams are already planning to make moves for next season. The NFL free agency gives teams a chance to add players to their team without losing draft picks or other players. It also gives players a chance to leave a team and pick which new team he’ll join.
This year’s free agency has a lot of talented players available. The top three players of this year’s free agency, excluding QB’s for now, are Kenneth Walker, a Running Back, Trey Hendrickson, an Edge, and Alec Pierce a Wide Receiver. Kenneth Walker is going to be a highly coveted player for teams that are in need of a running back, since he recently just won the Superbowl MVP which is rare, and usually an award for Quarterbacks. Trey Hendrickson spent the majority of this year injured but the last two years prior he had 17.5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles in 2023, and 2 in 2024. Those stats are very rare and not many Edge rushers can get more than 10 sacks a season let alone 17.5 and have multiple forced fumbles. Alec Pierce is the most explosive Wide Receiver with 21.8 yards per reception, which is 4.6 yards more than the second place receiver, and is a big receiver also, 6 foot 3, 211 pounds. Both of which are teams that need Wide Receivers, want in a player.
The top quarterbacks of free agency are Aaron Rogers, Kyler Murray, and Malik Willis. In comparison to the other positions in free agency, the Quarterback room is not nearly as competitive. Aaron Rodgers is a NFL legend, but he’s old. No one but him even knows if he’s going to play another year of football, and this last year he played decent at best. Teams really desperate for a Quarterback might pick him up, but will not find a long term answer with him.
Kyler Murray has been an inconsistent Quarterback throughout his time with the Cardinals. Between 2022 and 2024 he didn’t even have 3,000 yards passing and had poor touchdown to interception ratios. This year he wasn’t able to play much due to a foot injury, but in the 5 games he did play in, he threw 6 touchdowns and 3 interceptions, which is not a good stat. Despite that, he is a good pick for teams that need Quarterbacks because he would be a cheaper hire and has lots of experience.
Now Malik Willis, he is the Quarterback with the most unproven, and yet the most potential. He has ridden the bench for two teams in 4 seasons. But when he had his opportunity to start in a game for the Packers and replace Jordan Love temporarily, he balled out. He only started in one game but had 3 passing touchdowns, no picks, and 2 rushing touchdowns. His lack of film to watch and proof of talent is worrying, but his potential might be worth it for desperate teams.
