Last night, the Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the San Antonio Spurs in a late-game thriller. The Wolves beat the Spurs 104-102 despite Victor Wembenyama having a historic game for the Spurs. Wembenyama had a triple-double of 11 points, 15 rebounds, and 12 blocks. He broke the playoff single-game block record. Anthony Edwards came off the bench scoring 18 points, making 8/13 shots.
There were reports saying Edwards was questionable to return to play this series. Edwards hyperextended his knee in game 4 of the Round 1 series against the Nuggets. Although Edwards was limited to 25 minutes, he still impacted the Timberwolves success.
The score was pretty even the whole game. The largest lead of the game was only seven points and at halftime, the game was tied at 45. The Spurs seemed like they had the game under control during the third quarter, but then the Timberwolves got the lead in the fourth quarter. The Spurs were down 104-98 with 40 seconds left in the game, and were able to trim the lead to 104-102. The Spurs forward, Julian Champeighnie, had the game-winning shot attempt, but it came short and the Timberwolves ended the Spurs historic Round 1 game at home.
Wembenyama shared his thoughts on his game 1 performance.
“I feel like I had to use my energy, obviously used a lot of it on one side of the court, and on the other side I used too much, offensively I used too much on things that didn’t really help our team,” said Wembenyama.
The Timberwolves face the Spurs in game two Wednesday night in San Antonio. Can the Timberwolves build a 2-0 series lead or can the Spurs bounce back and tie up the series?
