In only the past few years, we have seen a dramatic spike in the creation and use of AI (artificial intelligence). While the reason for use can be for a variety of things, from a helpful resource to creating a photo of your dog on a rainbow, there is a large use of AI within schools across the globe.
This leads into a concern and debate of the impact AI has on students’ lifestyle. While some view it as a learning tool, some see it as an object that’s use is often abused. This includes students using it to cheat, plagiarize, and bringing it into their assignments when the teacher has specifically instructed not to.
“AI hurts students’ learning patterns because we rely on it more instead of using it as a helpful tool.” Senior Lizzy Croasmun said.
Some students have acknowledged that AI is heavily relied on instead of being a side tool for assistance when absolutely needed. It is no longer used as a last resort but rather a first option when it comes to completing work. Students feel like too many of them are making AI something that makes their assignments for them instead of helping them on assignments, completely defeating the point and abolishing any form of learning.
“AI has changed my education by having information just so readily available and not having to do a lot of deep dives into websites.” Senior Amy Gurney said.
Looking into a more positive side of the concept of AI, students find it brings in an easier access to sources and information that you would have typically had to take more time to discover without it. This brings in the argument of AI having a negative or positive impact on students. While the exact answer is unknown and often determined by your choice of using it wisely or abusing it. We can see the clear pros and cons to AI use.
