Ok yes, social media and technology are very helpful when it comes to advertisement and marketing in the business side of things, but how much is it negatively effecting the young people of our society? Recalling my memories as a young child, a phone or screen was never in the picture.
Kids these days deserve more than what is on a screen. Their great creative minds do not need to draw back. In fact, they need to do the complete opposite and be used and encouraged. Our world is becoming dull and repetitive. So, what happened to the playing with Barbie’s, silly play pretend, or the inviting neighbors over to collect potato bugs?
From “The National Library of Medicine” they talk about potential harms from social media on children. They have an increase in poor mental health which bring outcomes of depression and anxiety. Not only mental problems but also physical issues like poor sleeping quality, body image and eating disorder behaviors. Honestly, why would we want a world where we have huge problems to the futures of the children and youth. Especially when it is so easy to encourage less use in social media and technology.
Diving deep into this idea, I realized the difference between the shows/movies from my younger days to now. Overtime we have gained the ability to improve the quality of movies. It is impressive to see the improvements, but it has also become a problem. Kids show these days are overusing the ability to add so many details and colors that become over-stimulating and risks the brain to process normally and a persons ability to focus becomes less concentrated.
“Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should” unanimous said.
People have benefited from social media/technology, but since its access is so easy to anyone at any age, we do not know who’s futures it will more detriment than benefit. Kids need to explore the world we live on. They need to notice the things we don’t with their tiny creative minds. We need them to see and find a story where we never thought was possible. We can set our own limits and encourage less screen time for our future family’s. We might come off as “strict”, but at least our children will benefit more than others around us.
