As the school year comes to an end, students everywhere begin to feel a shift. The countdown to summer becomes more real each day, and with it comes a sense of relief that’s hard to ignore.
Throughout the whole school year, stress builds up in many different ways. It could be staying up late to finish homework, studying for tests or finals, or trying to balance schoolwork with our personal and social lives.
“By the end of the year, it feels like everything is due at once, and you’re just trying to keep up without getting overwhelmed,” said sophomore Brynley Harrison.
Whatever it is, students are constantly juggling multiple responsibilities and just trying to get through it.
By the time the last week of school arrives, many feel completely drained. This is what makes the end of the school year so rewarding. The moment the final bell rings, it feels like a weight has been lifted.
“The second school ends, it feels like you can finally breathe again and just enjoy life without worrying about what’s due next,” sophomore Isaac Rushing said.
In the summer, there’s no immediate pressure waiting for you the next day. There are no assignments due and no tests to study for. Instead, there’s freedom. Freedom to sleep in, spend time with friends, and enjoy days without the same draining schedule. The transition isn’t always just about escaping from the stress, it’s also about starting a new journey and discovering something new.
Summer brings opportunities to relax, grow, and make memories. It could be late night drives, vacations with family, or simple days spent with friends. These moments become some of the most memorable parts of the year.
At the same time, this shift can feel overwhelming. After months of having a structured schedule built into our lives, having so much free time can take some getting used to. The fast paced rhythm of school suddenly slows down, and students have to adjust to a different kind of lifestyle for a few months.
That being said, moving from stress to freedom is one of the most satisfying parts of being a student. It’s a reminder that hard work pays off. As summer begins, students are given the chance to reset, recharge, and prepare for whatever memories come next.
